Just saw a report from CNN and saw the airport underwater. Water was up to the doors at the terminal and water as far as you could see towards the runway. Looks like it may not be open for several days.

Hello Everyone
I have to say I am sorry I was given some bad information on the airports. I did see planes flying over yesterday and 2 people here told me that Marsh was open. In fact the person who first told me was the sister in law of the man that flew the plane that went over. She confirmed through another source for me that the airport was open. My husband is on his way to Marsh Harbor right now to get the real scoop and I’ll report back.. Again I am sorry for the misinformation.
But I just read this on the board
TC airport is operating
We're in the Atlanta area and looking to Hitch Hike with anyone who may be flying to TC from the Southeast. I called Continental and they have flight out of Miami at 1:15 today. Still waiting any word on how the beachfront of GTC is before we come down. We'd be happy to split charter- please email me.
Thanks, Brad Barrett
I just had a friend ( Johnny Roberts of Nippers ) in the states call and the agent told them that is was not open or operating in TC

Tami, it is not necessary to post information about the airports on every thread. I have stuck this thread so it will stay with the others so any information as to the airports should be posted here.
The purpose of having separate threads for each cay, and now the airports, is to keep it simple and streamlined as possible.
Anyone making a post to the Board should make sure they are in the correct thread for the cay they are inquiring about.

Re MHH 2500 ft usable, 2500 under water. Depends on which part is under water, aircraft may not be able to taxi up to the terminal. Very difficult situation.

Well just goes to show how the Air Lines can give false information. My husband got to MIA and Continental said there would be no flight out and they would not refund his money. He did get his refund and is headed to FT. Dale Air Port to get a flight into Marsh Harbor or Treasure Cay does any one know of Treasure Cay Airport is it open.

Was at US Customs at PBI, and the officers there told me, that a flight, leaving from Ferrin Sawyers terminal, has indeed landed at PBI this afternoon.
I just spoke with Continental and confirmed my flight tomorrow from Miami to MHH. I spoke with 3 different people just to be sure and they all said the same thing "it shows open". I think they may route us to treasure cay then who knows what. I'll call tomorrow before I fly just to check again.

We are setting up a charter to get to Guana later in the week. Do you know Jim Elliott?
He owns the treehouse on Guana. So far we have four people. You can email me at daniellevison@mkmanagement.com

Also what was the damage to Nippers? Is Johnny and his family ok?

This AM Continental checked in Jubb & Louie for Newark, To Fll to TCB. Now all continetal flights to TCB have been canceled. So they are hanging out in FLL airport, Any one who has a charter or flight over and is looking to share, pls call Louie Louie on cell # 908-656-1615. Also TSA took away the chain saws, they must be in original box-unopened for checked luggage.

alert the airline at checkin and TSA will check it. Their concern is gas residue in the tanks so electrics are not supposed to be a problem. They also suggested we remove blades before we put the chainsaw in our luggage. I intend to also put a note on the saw indicating that it is electric and I was told it was OK. Obviously this won't help you without a generator.

As much as I regret it to say, but gas-driven chainsaws fall under the category of hazardous material, and airlines like Continental do take it seriously, when it comes to comliance of Hazardous Material. Be thankful that TSA doesn't even go one step further (as they apparently do not know the HazMat regulations). Electrical chainsaws do not fall under HazMat regulations. I may get some comments, but these are the rules.

Was at Walkers Cay today. the airfield is operational, but pilots will be questioned by Miami Flight Service, why they go there, as the airfield apparently has not been officially declared opened by the Bahamian authorities. Walkers Cay runway is operational and clear of any debris, no washouts, nothing. Made several flybyes for safety reasons, and the landing was uneventful. Customs at Walkers is operational, and when you leave, you are asked to pay your Bahamas Departure Tax.

My husband is in Ft Lauderdale Airport leaving in the next few minutes. They are going to Treasure Cay first then Marsh Harbor. They will have seats available for the return flights back to Ft. Lauderdale. The cost will be $142.00 plus departure fees. No agent is available by phone. If you are needing or wanting to leave Treasure Cay or MH today they suggest being to the airport by 3:00 pm. This is with Florida Coastal Airlines. Good Luck. Teri

Flew in on Island Air/Vintage's 19 seat Beech 1900 today. We landed first at Marsh and the main terminal building in still not usable due to rainwater flooding. We cleared at the "mid field" terminal building but it really was just handing our passports to immigration and then outside telling the customs guy what we had. There's no waiting area so Abaco is NOT for sissies! All the runway is usable. Then flew down the island chain to Treasure which has no problems whatsoever. Many flights coming and going. All that stuff American and Continental telling you about these airports not being open is BS! Wide open and BUSY!

thanks so much for taking the time to post those photos - pictures say soooo much more than any of the postings about the aftermath - especially when you are still waiting on info regarding damage to your own property that is there.

I am at our car rental building right now at the Marsh Harbour airport (9:50PM EST). This afternoon the airport building and our rental building was re-powered back up. There was a crew cleaning around the building and a tow truck towing flooded vehicles away from the area. The ramp for the planes looks like it has dried up and there was a plane parked in front of the M H Terminal building late this afternoon. SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO Maybe the M H Terminal building will be open very soon.

I don't know when the M H terminal will be officially open. When it does open then the commericial flights will start to come in. The Bahama government has to officially announce that it is reopened. There was a lot of water inside the building during the rain flood out here at the airport. I could see throught the window that there has to be a lot of cleanup inside the building. Once everything is cleaned up it should open right away. I would think that it should almost reopen tommorrow(Friday)
Continental Connection left the gate and was "in the air" at 1:15 today (Thursday). This was flight #9147 departing FLL at 12:35.

American was supposed to begin flying out of MHH today but we have been called twice: once to say Friday's flight was cancelled and now Saturday's flight is cancelled. When we asked why - they are giving us the reason of high winds coming off IVAN. I cannot see how when Abaco is reporting no winds now but certainly higher winds by Sunday. Safety first. Hopefully Continental will pick up some of the Amer. Airlines passengers trying to get off the islands.

Friday Morning 8 am EST. The MH Airport Terminal building is CLOSED. I talked to one of the airport workers this morning and they said that maybe next week the building will be reopened. Charter flights are flying in and out of MH Airport. Vintage airline is in and out. The planes are still going the the Cherokee Air Hanger office on the west side of the runway. I was told by one of the M H airport workers that commercial flights are flying in and out of Treasure Cay Airport but I can't verify that. Since I am located right here at the MH airport, I will let you know when I see the first commercial flight using the MH Terminal building. I am going to try to get our car rental office up and running today at the MH Airport.
