Many Bahamians calle WPB their second home and this is a report filed by Bruce McDaniel, in WPB for the duration of the storm. Today, no power, traffic lights all non-functional, big sinlk-holes in the pavements, little if any stores open, and no gasoline. Publixs on Southern opened for a few hours on backup generator - aisles dark and no food on the shelves. Bruce says complete chaos. Most of the food was offloaded prior to the storm to take care of the shelters during the weekend. Many necessary supplies were long gone prior to the storm's arrival. Many big trees, limbs down. Bruce said the intercoastal is litered with huge yachts in people's yards, sailboats too. Curfew everywhere. Nobody, whatsoever, permitted on Palm Beach island proper. So any Bahamians looking for comfort, please wait a few days until WPB can get it together. Bruce thinks that perhaps by the weekend, things might look a little bit better. He is amazed at the impact of the storm on a high population area. People are desparate for water, ice, gas and other essentials. Bruce reports that relief officials not on the scene as of Monday. Probably waiting for Big Fat Frances to pass the state all together. Bruce and others cannot even think about Ivan until their bodies have produced enough adrenalin to do it all over again. So in closing, I will take a quote from my Bahamian friends and we "won't put any mouth on it." Take good care to all, as the aftermath of these storms is often worse than the getting ready and going thru. Godspeed to the Bahamas from WPB Florida.
