Word via a drive by report relayed by telephone call is that: the houses on both sides of the north side of Crossing Beach did well. Also the houses on the west end of the Eastern Shore seemed fine, except for yard damage. There is no power or water yet. Trees are being cleared from the roads. Recovery is in process.

Messages from johnncake who is located on Pelican Shore in Marsh Harbour:
9/7/04 Noon – Power still off – DSL will not work. Phone on and off. Contractor already repairing roof across the street. Abaco tug boat pushing large barge with a truck going to Elbow Cay.“
9/7/04 1250PM “Drove over to Eastern Shore – Ferries running to all Cays. Seawater went across the road at Crossing Beach area. Does not look bad and passable. Drove to the end of Eastern Shore with no problem – street is clear. Doing a drive by found the East Side of the peninsula had more damage than the West Side. Looking from the road there were shingles off and water damage. Metal roofs seemed to do well. Only property names that come to mind are:
Palm House – building to east bare plywood on roof and water damage. West Side building some roof damage.
Wheelhouse – shingles gone down to plywood on East Side and most likely water damage.
Peas & Rice – lots of shingles missing.
Slip-A-Way – fared well – Lost only a few shingles – Cheryl Lawrence(owner) says thanks for all the prayers and concerns about everyone’s safety.
All structures on Eastern Shores are standing. Damage from water and missing shingles do vary.
The people of Abaco will work as hard as possible to get everything back to normal. As I look out my window, the Sea of Abaco looks as beautiful as it always was . “ Johnnycake.

Trying to find out condition of Windward House, if anybody has taken a closer look at any of the homes along Eastern Shore. Also condition of Blue Dolphin next door. Having been down right after Floyd, I can only imagine what it looks like this time. Glad to hear that everyone is safe.

as of Noon on 9/8, there have been no direct postings from Abaco Island about ES on this thread. the reports posted thus far for this thread are compiled and relayed from the very few Sat-phone calls and telephone connections achieved thus far. please be aware that your requests are not being seen on island. responses to specific requests for info will be far higher once Internet service is reestablished and telephone service normalized.

I got ahold of Patti and Bob on the phone yesterday, but they didn't give me any information on other properties (I mostly wanted to make sure they were holding up OK), they all sounded VERY tired and worn out after days of storm and communication relays. Their house is fine, some water got in as is the case with having one's house powerwashed for 2-3 days (=horrid mildew smell). It sounds like folks are trying to get the internet back to the island, so expect more info soon. Some vegetation damage too of course, but no specifics (got the general feeling it wasn't as bad as Floyd). I think they would have said something if Windward was badly damaged, but I really don't know for sure. Just hang in there, more info will come.

there was a warning on the M-O-W thread that though many houses looked fine from the outside, inside of them there were water and mildew issues that needed to be checked out and/or handled.
this warning, of course, applys to Eastern Shore houses, most of which appear fine on the outside but may have interior water-related issues.
remember that all of our houses were "pressure washed" for 30 plus hours and there are likely to be predictable consequences.

Pattie and Bob here, at Blue Dolphin, we are back online. No cable, pwr comes and goes, telephone back. Lots of messy damage. Windward House stalwart although drippy, and the big palm is gone.
Anyone with specific questions feel free to email.
May Ivan not touch any of you!
All the Best,
Pattie

I just looked towards Eastern Shores from my deck and it appears to have more lights on than previous nights so it may appear that the power is back on. It is 9pm Saturday Sept 11 (Also Man-o-war is well lit up tonight)

the followig from a post to MH thread:
News from Eastern Shores
From: Wdhaph@aol.com Date: 2004/09/04 Sat PM 05:42:57 ESTTo: info@donereach.com, DONEREACH@aol.comSubject: Storm report from Abaco
Bob Buchan at Driftaway just called on a portable phone to tell us that our damage was very little. A few shingles on the overhang but not over the main part of the house, one panel of plywood and one of the porch windows blown in. I don't know if it is broken or just out of the frame. Even the orchids survived. The road had a few trees down which they took care of and the Tolers had some water in their house which Bob and Tommy cleaned up. Hope everyone else had it just as easy or better. Bill

i asked my friend, Carrington, to check Beach Point House, our house on ES, for water damage. C found that, although house's roof had held up fine, some of the the horizontal rain had blown in under the doors. This is not a big deal, to be sure, but i'm glad that the interior was checked out and the moisture mopped up before it caused more mildew than usual.

Yes. We have power and water since late last week. Thumbs up to the utilities--much better response time than after Floyd!
