My sailboat, Intuition, is also docked at Seaspray. Although it survived Hurricane Frances, I'm really concerned that Jeanne did her worst. Any news would be appreciated.
Glad that Wally, Junior, Delta, and the rest of the staff appear to be safe. This part of my prayer was answered.

Fig Tree News Team reports from Harbour Island and North Eleuthera, by way of comparison ...
Hi all,
Had a quick look outside just now and there is far less damage than after Frances. There are just a few small branches blown down here and there, and palm leaves dotted around on the ground.
The beach doesn't appear to have been eroded any more.
Overnight, the winds were certainly much weaker than Frances, and came initially from the Northwest, and then moved around to roughly Southwest. The power stayed on pretty much all night, until about 5 or 6am (it's still off at the moment - 9:20am).
I haven't been into town yet. Things are calming down now, with periods of rain squalls and wind gusts.
The phones seem to be working ok for incoming and outgoing calls.
Regards,
Ben Knox

All radio and tv stations closely monitoring storm - we have seen video from Abaco Beach Resort on local ABC affiliate here in WPB. Lots of reports filtering in from Marsh Harbouron tv and radio. Curfews in effect here, everything boarded up tight, shelters filling up. There is no more gas, most stores closed as of noon. Will be a strong Cat. 3, maybe Cat. 4 when it hits here. We are staying in our house - established a safe room. Cloudy, rainy and just a few squalls here so far.

Hi all,
Am I imagining it or is the track shifting more to the North? I am basing this on the following coordinates and times, all from the NWS:
5am 26.5N 76.2W
8am 26.5N 77W lubbers quarters
11am 26.6N 77.6W in the bight w of Joe Downer Cays
12pm 26.7N 77.8W
1pm 26.8N 77.9W just E of Spence Rock
At 8am it looked like the eye center was over lubbers quarters. I plotted out on a chart those coordinates and I am showing an over all track from 8am to 11 of about 280 degrees. The track from 11 to 12 looks more like 297 degrees and from 12 to 1:pm looks more like 317 degrees. Does anyone want to check my figures? By that account, it looks like the eye center will be over Grand and Walkers. I hope they are OK. I, too, saw the Marsh Harbor clips. The large Catamaran on the shore with the large powerboat in the middle of the street. These storms are unbelievable. The toll they take, not just in property, but life and psychie, is beyond comprehension. Any thoughts on track?

Hi Nancy
Did you see the weather channel report on abaco at Snappas? Looks like a big storm surge....you fly buddy, bobbi

Channel 4 here in S. Florida, has Brian Norcross and he just recently said that Jeanne has edged 3/10's, from 26.5 to 26.8, in the last 3 hours, and I believe he said each whole degree equals a 60 mile shift, which means the 3/10's would be about 15 miles' shift north. I hope I got that right. Don't want to give out misinformation. But it has shifted just a tad north.

Latest Forecast from the Weather Bug Site: At 4 PM Saturday, Jeanne was centered near 27.0N 78.6W or 40 miles north-northeast of Freeport Grand Bahama Island. This position is about 120 miles east-southeast of Vero Beach, Florida. Jeanne is moving just north of due west at around 14 mph.

Yes,
I believe your nthwrds shift is viable and likely helpful to all those in abaco.
as a result of the wobble to the NW the abacos were spared the NE quadrant of the storm and spent most of the storms passing in the SW (the least organized quadrant).
with the storm moving quickly to the NW as you have demonstrated, i suspect the backside of the storm packed less punch than the front.
yet, im sure it was something to ride out.
continue to hope all is well in abaco

Just had a cell phone call from Truman Major -- very bad connection, but he said our boat was fine and he and the family were all fine. Said the storm winds were like Frances and mentioned one boat with a piling through it--but not possible to carry on a conversation. Just good to know they are okay. And thanks to the Hope Town Volunteer Fire and Rescue web site we know everyone is okay on the island. They have re-established communications with Hope Town and should be posting damage assessment reports later in the day.

Sorry not to have answered earlier--been doing a battle with Jeanne here today. The connection was bad, but we asked Truman if he was calling from his cell phone and he said he was. We have caller ID and it was not the number we have for his cell phone--could have been Lyn's or someone else's? Don't think sat phones have a 242 area code, or do they? As I said, the connection was very bad and we only heard a word or two here and there but we understood him to say cell phone.

No, sat phones do not have a 242 area code.
If that is what came up on your caller ID then it was a cell phone.

Great Lady There was a recent post"within in the last hour,by the Hopetown Fire and Rescue" stating that the damage at Seaspray was not as bad as previously stated, and that all boats WERE AFLOAT.I was there week before last and Junior had your boat open and drying it out,I am sure Wally is taking the best of care of it.I spoke with Junior twice today,as he was driving from Orlando to Ft,Lauderdale, then also lost him.Junior should be on the cay as I write this,or certainly in the morning,as he was arranging a charter today.I will be at Seaspray Friday,if you need anything done for your vessel, please email me.uphillslyde@yahoo.com Tony/42'hatteras "BUSTER"

Kudos to Hopetown Fire & Rescue for the terrific job of keeping off-islanders informed ... it's remarkable that we have such timely and thorough information up here in Massachusetts, where Jeanne has yet to pay her unwelcome visit. We're sorry to read that the Hope Chest dock washed away, but take comfort in knowing that everyone is safe and that things aren't any worse....

Please bear in mind that the weather has not been that great today and most of our available boats are still in dry storage due to the major damage to docks.

I just wanted to say how much I appreciate the HFR site and all the info they have published. Though I don't have a home or boat there I do recognize what a wonderful service they provide the folks that are property owners. I can olny imagine the work these last two blows have caused.
I would like to make a donation (and somehow I will soon) but the whole paypal thing keeps getting in my way. It always has been a pain.
