Day 13 Wednesday 3/22: Our last full day. The morning was a bit rough and I’m not talking about the Sea of Abaco. Saw a black lab trottin’ down the lane behind the cottage. Called him over, gave him my famous ‘doggie shoulder massage’ and found his name was Salty. He looked like he was trying to find something so I asked him if he was looking for his ball. He ran to the front of the house and next thing I know he’s got a coconut in his mouth! (I guess dogs have to make do in paradise.) He proceeded to tear the outer shell off the coconut and throw it. I played catch with him for about an hour. What a great dog!

Trolled for a few hours outside. Saw 100’s of fish boiling but they wouldn’t bite. (Later heard that someone caught a couple of 90lb tunas.) Did a little packing back at the cottage, showered and headed off to Cracker P’s…in the boat. Good thing the signage is good on the dock......

Met a group from Wisconsin that were staying at Southern Breeze and were loving it. The men were avid flyfishermen and the ladies loved to snorkel. The guys confided that they’d go to the best fishing spots and tell the girls it was a great snorkel place. That way everyone was happy. Saw Patti & Eddie again and we met Bigfish (Bruce) and his fiancé, Peg. Had a really nice time and also more of that smoked fish dip. Played with Bigfoot (he had finally warmed up to me after a massage) and Rick cuddled with the little one.

Left a bit after sundown with a few too many drinks under our belts. As I was pulling up the anchor, it was really stuck, it came loose and I fell back hitting my elbow HARD! I was fine tho, just another minor flesh wound.

Day 14 Thursday 3/23: Leaving paradise today. Got to the airport 3 and a half hours before our flight. After checking our bags we hotfooted it over to 7 till Late for some sustenance. The kitchen was closed so we opted for a Kalik. Then some Goombay Smashes, expertly mixed by Ruth, the bartendress. After about an hour there, 3 boys who look to be about 16 or 17, saunter in trying to look really cool. They order buds and I look at Ruth and I am cracking up. She looks like she’s about to burst but fills their drink orders. They order strawberry daiquiris and as they are leaving tell Ruth that they were really good ones. Like they had been having them forever. After they were gone we bust up. I wonder if I ever looked like that when I was their age.

Our flight to Miami in an 18 seater Beech 1900 was supposed to be about an hour. Well, after a 2 and a half hour flight we finally landed. During the flight we were rerouted to Ft Lauderdale and then Key West because of sever thunderstorms but eventually were cleared for Miami. It actually worked out OK because we didn’t have that long of a wait in the airport. Landed at LAX at 11:00pm, got our rental car and drove to Vista. Arrived at our house at 2:15am (5:15 Bahamian time) to some very happy doggies!

We met a lot of great people, saw so many beautiful places, and so many very nice rental homes. We absolutely loved Green Bananas. It was the perfect place for us. Thanks again to Cruiser’s Net and this board. It truly helped make this an incredible adventure.

The End..........for now.

Tina your report(s) have us all worked up. Unfortunately it's not for another 2 months that we leave on our annual pilgrimage to the Abacos.

Be curious to know, I know you bought a gaf but did you bring your own fishing rods.

Rick and Tina,

Thanks for a great trip report. You sure covered most of the bases. I had gotten some of the reports from Patti Davis and she said you all were fun people. Hope to get to meet you next time. I share the offshore fishing "bug" with Bruce and Eddie, among others, so we'll all have to get together sometime to compare notes. They like to deep drop, too, and I've done that off Santa Barbara before (without electric reels) - painful, but lots of strange critters out there.

Thanks for all the great pictures. My lot is just down the beach from Green Bananas.

Watertoots, You're are going to have the BEST time!

Momshell, Thanks so much for the photos you sent us. I must have looked at the photo of GB about 50 times a day!

AbacoRainz, Beachbum1960 and Norvell, Have a great time and post some pics when you return. I'm so jealous!

Motuiti, Oh yeah. Trolling outfits, lighter tackle stuff and a flyrod. And a big tackle box. Have a great time on your trip! BTW, Love your website!

EvaH, YogaGirl, Apoggi, and Half-a-Hamian, Thanks for taking the time to read our report and the nice feedback. This board is the greatest!

Hank G, Sorry we missed you. Patti & Eddie and Bruce are great people. Let's definitely get together on our next trip. When are you going to build on your lot?

Thanks everyone!

Great report!

My wife and I are leaving next Thursday 4/6 and staying on Lubbers at Hardaground and this gave me a great perspective on what to expect (our first trip as well). You have me a little concerned about the Cracker P's trail, it doesn't look far on the map but it sounds like you guys really had a hard time with it. Any other last minute tips for someone staying on Lubbers?

It doesnt look that far but I wouldnt want to walk it (especially after a few kaliks) from Hardaground unless you're looking for a hike. Take the boat or you used to be able to rent a golf cart on Lubbers from the Sands'. Not sure if you still can.

When we went down last December and tried to walk to CP's, the trail off the public road had a "private" sign on it. We went down to the water and waded the last part over to CP's - an endeavor I do not recommend. According to Patrick, the folks next door are building a pool near the trail that they used to allow visitors to use; however, they now desire a bit of privacy and closed it off. Makes good sense to me and I'd do the same; however, unless you trespass, I believe the only reasonable way to arrive dry and unscarred is by boat. If this is incorrect, someone please correct me.

A great investment for power outages, to illuminate Tilloo Cay from Lubbers, or for emergency navigation in case you get caught out after sunset in your boat is a rechargeable, 1 - 3 million candlepower, hand-held lantern. Prices have gone way down and you can get a decent one for around $25.

Folks, I know we beat this like a gong, but PLEASE do not run your boats, especially rental boats, after dark, We have deaths from night time boating accidents every year. The rental boat people will have a seizure if you damage their boats at night. You folks visiting on Lubbers, consider an early dinner, and try to get back to your dock while there's still some daylight. The combination of liquor, disorientation from poor visibility, and the the presence of the occasional boater who runs Lubbers Channel full throttle with no running lights is a dangerous, volatile mix.

DaGoose had such great shots I thought I'd try with my limited computer skills----
1. Shark--0, The Grumpy Old Fishermen---1
2. Where is this?
3. Mike, Katheye, and several of The Grumpy Old Fishermen
4. Dinner for TGOF

Wow, it is really good to Mike and Kathye, they look SO good, Hidden Cove is a great house. And they were SO kind to put that bench at the top of the hill. One of my favorite spots.
Thanks for posting these pics, looks like a great time.
