Hey George P.. and anyone else :)
I'll be coming to the area for my honeymoon the week of June 11th. I will be fishing several days with my fiance and her father while there.
My question is what are the best baits/lures for the big dolphin? Will they be around then?
I have also heard the big blues are usually around that time of year. Between us, we have a rather large arsenol of Moldcrafts, Pakula's, Yaps, Black Barts, etc.. What else should we prepare with?
Any other baits we should bring?

My opinion on the best bait for big dolphin - outside of Running and Gunning for birds and pitching out a live bait when you see fish, is a large ballyhoo with an all blue Ilander skirt, rigged on 130-pound test fluorocarbon leader.
However, that leader might prove too weak should a big blue intercept the bait. If you're strictly looking for dolphin, go with the 130-lb. leader, or if you want a shot at a blue, upgrade the leader to 220-pound fluorocarbon. - And make sure to use a strong hook to prevent it from straightening under heavy pressure.

Thanks George. Love your show and your dolphin tactics. You should do a show or two off the TEXAS coast. We know how to fish too.. :)

Thanks!
I did a show off Texas last season, for seatrout.
I know you have good offshore fishing, but running over 100 miles to find tuna, marlin and dolphin is a bit tough to do aboard a 28-foot center console.
Also, if I ran 100 miles offshore Miami, I would have overrun the Bimini Big Game Club by 50 miles, and be just 30 miles shy of Chub!
It's hard to justify that kind of run, when I can do it from home and be in the Bahamas, docked up at night, and resting up for the following morning!
I did fish offshore South Padre Island before for marlin and wahoo, and even wrestled with some big American red snapper off Freeport (in fact, if I remember, we ran 70 miles there to reach the big snapper)!

I understand. It's a different ball game, for sure! That's why I like going to Miami/Bahamas where one can fish in a matter of minutes rather than hours..lol. Although, you can be in some good snapper with 10-20 miles off the coast in Port Aransas or Port O'connor.
Thanks again for the info, and if you find yourself in TEXAS, let me know.
