Hey all,
My family and I will be traveling to Guana cay in a couple of weeks. We were wondering if a satellite radio (Sirus namebrand) will have a good reception down in abaco? if anyone has experience or knows anything about this PLEASE respond!
Thanks

XM works well down into the Exumas as well!
We've had an XM radio for over 2 years here on Guana Cay and it has been wonderful for us.

Depends on what you like. I have both. For talk, go with XM. For music, I'll take Sirius specifically for Radio Margaritville. Nothing better on the boat heading out to fish, IMHO :)

Sirius has XM beat for music and news. I have Sirius and have not listened to the regular radio since. I'm a Howard Stern fan from 1990 so I got it for his radio show, but there is so much on Sirius that I don't always listen to him. The comedy channels are good. They have one that is clean and one that is uncensored, both are funny.
A buddy of mine from college has a comedy group that is getting some air play on XM, but he went with Sirius for the music.

XM Online also works great. For about $30 you can add a USB device that broadcasts to your FM tuner...just another option.

Sorry, it's not quite that simple. Earth being round and that pesky horizon thing, as well as sattelite spot beaming both have an affect on how far the signal can be captured from it's intended coverage area.
But yes, it seems Sirius and XM are both workable in the Abacos. Head east a hundred miles and I bet things start getting pretty spotty.

I purchased a Sirius, and it works great.
However, after a year on the boat I need a new unit!
Salt air and sea spray killed it! I wish they made a water proof unit.
Time to buy another one!
Anyone coming over soon that can bring me one??

Okay, I have one, and it works GREAT! I need to move it to it's permanent home in my shelves, which means I need to buy some speaker wire, but now I have two problems...the little reciever needs to be facing NW, which is gonna be a problem and it wont be very easy to get to (ladder needed also more extension wire)--any suggestions for waterproofing it on my roof? Also, I want two more speakers off the stereo it is hooked into, and there are only two speaker ports...is there such a thing as a splitter, where I could hook four speakers into two ports?

We have Sirius which is great. Went through two of those cheap house antennas before I realized the magnetic car antenna worked much better on a metal roof. Now I find out Shakespear makes a marine antenna for the units. Signal strength went up two bars with the magnetic antenna over the houde unit in the same location!
