Were you charged 2.99/minute by Tmobile? That's what the Tmobile website says the roaming rate is.

RE Cell Phones / GSM

If you have a GSM phone you can purchase a "chip" and use it in the Bahamas as "pay as you go". The rates are far less and they give you a local phone #. This way you can avoid paying the rediculous roaming charges. You can keep the chip and use it when you return.

It is my understanding if you have an open phone they can program it with a second local phone number and works as above.

BTC is finally waking up!

Any suggestions on where to look for such a chip in Marsh Harbor?

Believe I read in Abaconian a while back that Batelco was going to institute a SIM card system. If so that would mean that anyone with a "Ready to Go" phone, such as the one we have from Ireland, could remove the SIM and replace it with the Batelco SIM card, purchase minutes from Batelco as needed and keep the card for future use. Anyone know if this is in the pipline? Of course if you do have a SIM card phone it would have to be "unlocked" to switch cards.

There is a store near the jewelry store, and the bakery just past the traffic light on the right had side that has the chip. Sometimes they are out of them.

There is a cell store in the plaza on south side of Macka Blvd near the esso station.

You can get them directly at the Batelco office. just follow the tower. They have them at the batelco office in TC. Cards to add $ can be purchased almost anywhere.
