We've heard that it's possible to rent a surfboard in Hopetown..... can anyone confirm? I'd love a contact phone number so we can call to chat, reserve, etc. Or if there are surfboards available in MH, that's just as good from our point of view. Almost anything is easier than lugging one down all the way from Boston. Thanks.

We keep a boat on Elbow and I do not know of anywhere to rent boards. My son keeps his on the island

I once got in some trouble because I said "yes" there could be some rentals but when challenged, couldn't find a single surfboard to rent anywhere in the Abacos. I did check and some of the cottage rentals (not many really) do claim to have a surfboard - one has to ask if they have one and if it is OK to use it. Good luck and I hope you can catch some breaks off Elbow! /Sammie
I believe Sun Dried Tees has one or two surf boards to rent. They are next to Froggies and the PO dock in Hope Town.

Thank you all for the help...... We contacted Sun Dried Tees and they do have a couple of boards to rent. Unfortunately for us, they won't take a reservation, insisting on first-come first-serve, so my son (the surfer) is still not sure what to do! We have our own place near MH, are not really in touch with the cottage rental scene --- Sammie, can you let me know where you found the info about boards?? I'll be down next week and can do some checking around before my son and his family arrive.
Again, thanks....
Just bring one with you. Even better, bring one and leave it with a local. Then you don't have to pay to get it back. Most airlines that I have travelled on allow you to take one for a fee. I know it's pain, I'm a surfer, but it beats getting there and watching it fire and you are sitting on shore with no stick. Most people do not lend out or rent boards because they are fragile and there are a lot of rocks in the Bahamas. Every time I have lent one to a friend, I end up spending hours repairing it.
