We will be cruising the Upper Abacos the last 2 weeks of July. Boat Cay, Marsh, Freeport & Green Turtle. How crowded are these ports? Must we make hotel reservations, or is it possible to "freestyle" moving casually (when we feel like it) from port to port? The cancellation policies at the hotels are really tough & we want to enjoy a relaxing trip. Any feedback will be greatly appreciated.

While I'm fairly familiar with the Abacos but am not familiar with Boat Cay. Freeport is on Grand Bahama and not really central to the Abacos. With all that being said , given the ever rising fuel prices and based on the occupancy I observed at Boat Harbour today I suspect you may be able to "freestyle" as you called it.

Under normal conditions this probably wouldn't be a good idea but given the state of things I bet you will find last minute accomidations. Just my .02.

I know a lot of the places in the Abacos have 3 day minimums on lodging. You may be planning on staying put in one place that long anyway, but thought I would give a heads up.

I bet you will have no problem getting a spot most anywhere as traffic is way down.
Especially if you have emergency accommodations on your boat to sleep a night if something was booked....but I bet you will be fine.

I agree with you, to be able to wing it and be free is a great way to tour the Abacos!
