Hi again,
could anyone let me know of any possible problems for 1st timers in Guana linked to the development taking place at Bakers Bay; problems in the sense of noise, stress, crowds, construction, traffic, unaccessible beaches etc..
Has this development been completed? Does anyone suggest we try for a different island? It would be a shame for us to have our yearly vacation ruined. All we would like to find is a peaceful and beautiful island where to relax and enjoy the wonderful nature of the Bahamas.
Thanks again,
Randy

Randy,
We are going back to Guana tomorrow, but my buddy has been there for 6 weeks and our home is very near the entrance to Bakers he has not mentioned any real issues.

Randy, When are you going and where are you staying? There really isn't any thing to worry about. There might be a tiny bit more traffic but nothing to be a problem and actually you'll be amazed at how little traffic there is! And there are plenty of gorgeous beaches! Don't change your plans, you will love Guana and will be planning you next trip before you leave!

BTW, make sure to take your boat up to Spoil Bank Cay and Gumelemi.

Are you still staying at Ocean Frontier cabins? If so, you are away from the traffic but right next to Nippers Beach Bar. It gets pretty "active" on Sundays for the Pig Roast but is a nice place to take the kids during the day.
The development is not complete. There is more traffic than in the past, more larger golf carts and more trucks. It gets pretty busy around the public dock when the freight boat arrives and when the ferry arrives during the day. The development is at the north end and there is a gate there so you will not be able to enter at that end.
There are miles of beaches and reefs to explore. There is a reef not far off shore at Nippers. There are pools at Nippers that the children will enjoy. :D

Thanks for the info and yes we are planning on staying in the cabins at Ocean Frontier. I'm sure that the kids will love it, it was just that after reading about the controversy of the development I was worried (selfishly) that the beaches would somewhat be off limits because of the construction and would kind of ruin our long awaited vacation in paradise.

Almost an anomaly! No worries. The beach at Nipper's is as beautiful and quiet as ever. May be a little busy on Sat./Sun. but busy is still extremely relative.
Island is still quiet most times, and whatever is going on at the north end will have no effect on your vacation. Relax and enjoy.

Guana Cay is still a wonderful, friendly, peaceful island! We think it is "busy on the beach" if there are more than 20 people! So even when Nippers is in full swing on Sundays if you go either north or south of that area just a few yards, there is peaceful, quiet, tranquil beaches.
Not at all like the wall to wall blankets and people on the beaches here in the states! At our most busy times, the beaches are very lovely and tranquil. Snorkeling is fabulous..

Randy--we live at the "busy" end of the beach where you are staying.
We are still waiting for 3 people to walk down the beach to us. Had 2 people once this year.
It is very quiet still. Construction is far away from you and, as mentioned, there are more cars on the road. You are not near the road out of town toward Bakers so no worries.
Enjoy.
